Despite help from professional stylists, even 'Idol' winners like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood went for looks that gave new meaning to the phrase "hair don't."

16. Nikki McKibbin
Nikki's red hair made her stand out among the original 'Idol' crowd. But even then, her droopy rocker chick angle was in desperate need of a makeover. She set the bar low for future 'Idol' fashionistas; after season 1, there was nowhere to go but up.

15. Blake Lewis
Let's see, "how many words" can we use to describe this? It's not decidedly tousled, not a complete faux-hawk. Is this what you'd call "improv hair"? We (especially The Blaker Girls) appreciate the originality, but please reserve that for beatboxing Bon Jovi numbers.

14. Kellie Pickler
Dreaming of 'Jeannie'? Or Patty Duke in 'Valley of the Dolls'? If we lost you younger 'Idol' fans on that bouffant comparison, let's put it this way: It's what you'd get if a bobblehead mated with a Bratz doll.

13. Jordin Sparks
The hair Gods weren't especially kind to Jordin the night she sang 'Livin' on a Prayer' for Bon Jovi week. The season 6 champ went for a bold, curly look, but the risk proved to be too big -- literally -- for the then 17-year-old. Jordin ultimately wound up looking more like a kid playing dress-up than a true rock star.

12. Ryan Seacrest
David Archuleta could get away with this, but dude, you're a 33-year-old man who wants to be taken seriously. Maybe this is a subconscious (or conscious) attempt to add some inches and squelch those height jokes ... Well, we hate to break it to you, but that ain't ever gonna happen.

11. Garrett Haley
Whether he was trying to pay homage to Leif Garrett or not, Garrett Haley's shaggy look hit all the wrong notes during the season 7 semifinals. His outdated coif was even called out by Simon, who said "It looks like you've been shut up in your bedroom for about a month." Harsh words, but that didn't make his statement any less true.

10. Amanda Overmyer
Oh, Amanda. We can assume you're trying to exude some hard-rock grrrl cred with those hair streaks, but that poof -- it looks like you just came from a windblown ride on your Harley. That's not legit, that's overblown (literally).

The Brillo-pad coiffure is sadly common on 'Idol' (see No. 5 for the original offender). Jennifer, we expected more from you. But you did go on to nab an Academy Award, so we'll let this one slide.

Some of them are bad do's - I will admit. Underwood's 80's do, however, was for an 80's themed night....totally acceptable....get a clue!

I found this hilarious cookbook called "Get in the Kitchen, BIT@HES!" (bitchcooks.com)- It has made cooking fun again!
Chris Sligh was an excellent singer. This kid had a voice that was a mix between Roy Orbison and Christopher Cross. The kid could really belt 'em out. I was surprised he didn't go any further than he did. I hope someone saw him and picked him up. He deserves a chance - beyond American Idol.
What about Simon's hair? It looks like a bullet grazed his scalp right down the middle. The man has millions - get a decent hairdresser!!!

Sanjaya should have disappeared, but here he is in our face. Couldn't stand the young man. As far as the hair styles go, they were just imitating some of the weirdo's who have already made it in the music world.
